Commercial Break started forming in my brain sometime in 2023, while I was still writing some of the later tracks on You Are In Wilkinsburg Now?. I was watching these long compilations of commercials from after the 2008 financial crisis--commercials I used to watch when I was a kid but didn't really grasp the gravity of. These commercials were crass money grabs for the most part, at least from my perspective, but they all had a kind of unique vision. It's hard to explain, but if you start to watch enough, you'll start to really get a feel for that kind of green sludge that permeates every single one of those ads.
In the time after that massive upward transition of wealth, the war-tainted (genocide-tainted) commercials of the early 2000s grew even dimmer. The number of commercials for different military branches seemed to triple, and those ads for Greatest Hits compilations disappeared entirely. Free Credit Report ads ran every single commercial break. Every single one! These songs are corns for your ears for when those godawful credit report commercials come on. And the rest of them too! Including the targeted ones. Especially the targeted ones.
