About Me

Hi, I'm Denver. I'm a 27 year old hometaping fanatic. My influences include the Mountain Goats, The Ekphrastics, and Charlie McAlister. I'm a sucker for a song with violins in it, and I used to write about competitive Counter-Strike. Nowadays, I write a lot of poems, most of which I try to turn into songs. I love cats; Tiger, my late cat, was deeply influential on me and helped me see my way through an adolescence that I didn't think I'd make it through. Currently, I have two other cats--Delilah and Apollo. They're some of the sweetest creatures I've ever met in my life, and I feel very lucky to have them around every day. My partner and I also recently adopted a third cat together, whose name is Enoch. You can find pictures of Enoch over on my Bluesky.

Tiger, as painted by Luigi Falagario of Almost Halloween Time Records. If you're unfamiliar with Almost Halloween Time, you're missing out. Luigi's one-of-a-kind cover design is amazing, and was my largest influence when I was creating Disarmingly Bright.

At this point, I'm trying to piece together a few solo projects, which are described in more detail on the home page. These include an album and two EPs, but will probably expand as time goes on.

Five years ago, on August 31st, 2019, my cat Tiger passed away. I wrote and recorded the song below to tell him about the things he's missed in the last five years. I have so much to tell him.

Lonely Orange Sun

That's all I really have to say at this point. I'll leave you with a poem. I've added some dashed lines in the event that you want to print this page and cut the poem out of it like a BOGO coupon at the Ames. Do those still exist? According to Wikipedia they've gone bankrupt twice, but they're returning in 2026—at a certain point, you'd think they'd just cut their losses.

John Elway Statue, Still In Box (Or, Bronco)

My entire life within memory

The unfinished basement in my parents' house

Was full of sports memorabilia

Mass produced pucks with printed-on signatures

Footballs, pendants, and photographs

Most of it featuring John Elway

My dad was the only Broncos fan

I really ever knew in Jeannette

I'm sure I met more at some point or another but

At the very least

None of them were committed enough

To name their son after them

So that every time he introduced himself

At least one person would ask

If his parents named him after the football team

I didn't know my dad before he was my father

I never got to see him when he still had heroes

When Lemieux and Elway were still playing

He hasn't touched any of his treasures in years

Most of it is hung on walls gathering dust

Or on a fireplace mantle doing the same

Maybe one day my collection

Of assorted Mountain Goats memorabilia

Will be displayed in the same way

In an unfinished basement

In a town you really only pass through

Without another fan within double-digit miles

If I ever reach that point

At the very least

I'll have the decency to name my son John

That way, when he grows up

He won't have to deal with all the people asking

If his parents were Mountain Goats fans
